Wits University is proud to announce the launch of the Machine Intelligence and Neural Discovery (MIND) Institute, an innovative research hub aimed at advancing the fundamental science of artificial intelligence (AI) and defined by its focus on the study of machine, human, and animal intelligence.

Meet the Director of The Wits MIND Institute
Professor Benjamin Rosman is the founding Director of the Machine Intelligence and Neural Discovery Institute (The Wits MIND Institute). A renowned expert in AI, machine learning, and robotics, Rosman was named a 2024 National Geographic Explorer, a 2022 CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholar, and was the recipient of the 2021 Google Africa Research Award. In 2020, he was recognised as a Senior Member of the IEEE.

This edition of Wits in 60 seconds is dedicated to the new Wits Anglo American Digital Dome. This state-of-the-art space, which will open to the public in February 2025, offers a 360° immersive experience with shows for all ages. Beyond entertainment, it’s a modern teaching venue and collaborative research hub, where scientists and students can explore fields like big data, astrophysics, digital arts, microbiology, and precision medicine.
